Pound the Bounds

The annual "Pound-the-Bounds" organised walks have become one of the most important fund-raising events organised by the Rock Village Hall Committee. Next  year the event will take place on Sunday the ^3rd May, as always on the day before May Bank Holiday. It will be the 9th time and we intend to make it more successful than before. Numbers of participants have grown year on year and in 2008 some 301 people took part.

In response to a special request from a group of regulars we have added a 15 miles route. So there will be the widest of choices:

3 miles Treasure Hunt, especially for children and families

6 miles Guided Route, just follow the expert and relax

6 miles Independent Route

10 miles, 15 miles,  or the whole way around the parish, i.e. 25 miles

All routes will be way marked and each walker will be given a sheet with directions, a map of the area covered and a route-map. It is almost impossible to get lost, help is however only a phone-call away if required.

Marshalling and refreshment stations are situated strategically along all routes and progress of each participant is monitored throughout.

Some of the terrain is quite demanding, due to inclination, stiles and, much depending on weather conditions, muddy parts. But nature will be at its best; blue bells, wild garlic and many other spring flowers will be plentiful and splendid views of the countryside will be the reward after each up-hill effort. The 15 and 25 mile routes will take in a large part of the Wyre Forest, but all routes include a large variety of terrain and views.

Registration forms can be downloaded too. If you can complete one for each participant and bring it with you on the day, it will help us avoiding long queues at the start.

The entrance fee will be £5.00 or £2.50 for under 14’s, payable on the day.  The main raffle  prize will be a Pound-the-Bounds Cake and other prizes are to include a hand-carved walking stick and several donated items from Rock Cross Inn suppliers.

There will be a certificate for each entrant completing his or her chosen distance.

The Rock Cross Inn will be open for refreshments throughout the day and will be serving the usual range of excellent value meals. Other establishments on or very close to the routes are: The Bell, The Colliers Arms, The Duke William, The Horse and Jockey, The Plough, The Royal Forester and The Running Horse.

There will be plenty of well sign-posted car parking. Toilet facilities are available.

This fundraising walk is organised by Rock Village Hall (Registered Charity No 201575). The moneys raised will be allocated to the upkeep of the Village Hall as well as the Millennium Green surrounding the new Village Hall, the building will be open for viewing.
