NORTHANTS TOURING ARTS

THE STORY

TRADERS OF

SICHUAN

STORYTELLING AND MUSIC

Fresh from their travels to China, four of the regions most respected theatre-makers are working on a new show that will use all of the most exciting ingredients from the Sichuan Opera – with its tales of wise men, greedy emperors, silly monkeys and lovers who turn into snakes. But they’re not going to be doing it on their own because they’ve recruited the help of two performers from the world renowned Chongqing troupe to share their unbelievable skills with them! Six performers and musicians – three Chinese and three English – come together to tell a wonderfully colourful story that mixes all the best ingredients from the East and the West (and specifically the East Midlands) to create something utterly unique. This show, which has been funded by the Cultural Olympiad’s Igniting Ambition scheme, has been specially commissioned for the region and offers audiences the chance to see one of the world’s greatest theatrical techniques in the very heart of their village.

It will be a riot of storytelling and action, of song and

spectacle that is guaranteed to amaze!
